Warehousing and Distribution for Packaging Materials

Just as important as the raw materials and components that go into the production of consumer goods is the packaging used to get them into buyers’ hands. Cartons, corrugate, films, inserts, and pallets all have to make it from their places of production to the manufacturers and distributors who need them. Murphy Logistics is a 3PL provider serving consumer goods and other packaging-dependent manufacturers, offering warehousing and logistics services for packaging materials.

We provide warehousing, kitting, labeling, staging, and transportation services for packaging materials. Our multi-state network of facilities in Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, and New York totals more than 5 million square feet of public and contract warehousing. This gives us the capacity to support packaging material storage and distribution as part of our larger supply chain operations.

Warehousing Services

We understand that packaging materials come in all shapes and sizes, which is why we maintain flexible storage layouts to accommodate them. Our facilities feature bulk and racked areas, open floor space for pallets, and secure staging zones to store and stage packaging appropriately. Using inventory control systems and material handling equipment, we manage packaging inventory safely and accurately for manufacturers.

In addition, we provide value-added services such as kitting, cross-docking, and packaging materials staging as required by manufacturers or co-packers. These services support just-in-time packaging programs and coordination between packaging suppliers, co-packers, and production lines.

Transportation and Distribution Services for Packaging Materials

With our asset-based fleet and brokerage network, we arrange transportation for packaging materials as well as finished goods. Clients can choose delivery options including full truckload (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and expedited shipments depending on packaging volume and production timelines.

Because warehousing and transportation are managed together, we can coordinate replenishment, staging, and outbound distribution. We provide real-time shipment status information through tracking tools, documentation, and regular communication.

Compliance, Quality Assurance, & Inventory Visibility in Packaging Materials Logistics

Murphy works with manufacturers and packaging suppliers to align logistics processes with their production and inventory needs. Our Warehouse Management System can track pallets, cases, and individual items to provide visibility across multiple sites. This tracking helps reduce waste, avoid packaging shortages, and improve line-side throughput efficiency for our consumer goods clients.

Our operational framework complies with FDA/USDA requirements and is supported by certifications such as SQF Level 2, GMP, and HACCP. We provide audit-ready documentation and secure facility access to ensure packaging materials are kept safe until they are ready to be used and fully compliant with any relevant regulatory requirements. Accurate inventory and controlled overstock can help reduce waste and manage total packaging material costs.

End-to-End Packaging Materials Supply Chain Support

We handle multiple stages of the packaging materials supply chain, from supplier receipt and warehouse storage to staging and return or recycling of unused materials. We reduce the number of packaging materials handling steps and lead times for our clients through the integration of packaging kit assembly, project-specific staging, and supplier consolidation. Our multi-facility network enables clients to position their inventory closer to production and distribution sites for faster response and lower transport costs. Our packaging materials distribution and fulfillment services can streamline coordination, support inventory cost control, and improve visibility between packaging and production operations.
